Hiking on Mariapfarr´s Sun Trail!

The community of Mariapfarr - officially declared to have a "curative climate" since 1998 - repeatedly places the sun squarely at the forefront of many of its local development projects. In recent years, for example, a variety of activities have been organized that revolve around the town´s unusual abundance of sunshine. That is why visitors can now take us up on the "Sun Guarantee" and spend time at the "Samsunn" Health & Wellness Center, whose relationship to the sun is not merely a matter of name choice, but is also reflected in its use of big collector panels to harness solar energy.

And in this sun-drenched town, you will also fin the first Sun Trail in all of Austria. Big and small can pick up remarkable, exciting and fascinating facts about the very basis of life itself - the sun.
Along this beautiful, approximately 4 km-long pathway, 9 display boards tell us about the solar system, the connection between time and navigation, about the changing relationship between the sun and the Earth, about terrestrial weather patterns, about the sun in our world view, about the sun and health, as well as about solar energy and its uses. As these boards were being designed, great emphasis was placed on the use of pictures and visual depictions of the information. Each board also poses an intriguing question.
The Sun Trail starts out from Mariapfarr´s town centre and can be walked - depending on how long you spend at the stations along the way - in around 2 to 2.5 hours. You can also push a pram along the path, while benches are located at almost every one of the stations for whenever you need to take a break.
The Mariapfarr Sun Trail is a truly enjoyable and informative walk for the whole family!
