The Giant Samson Figure

The Samson figure has been chronicled back to the year 1635, the symbol of an Old Testament figure with superhuman powers dependent upon his long hair.

He represents the struggle of the Jews against the Philistines.  With the jawbone of an ass, he was able to strike down 1,000 Philistines at Lehi.  It is for this reason that most of the Lungau’s Samsons also carry such a jawbone.   Mariapfarr’s Samson is about 6.5 m tall and weighs around 86 kg.  He is borne on a man’s shoulders and accompanied by a pair of dwarves.
