Corpus Christi Processions
On the feast of Corpus Christi, Mariapfarr hosts a big Corpus Christi procession. All of Mariapfarr´s heritage groups pay their due respects - accompanied by the local folk orchestra. On the afternoon of the second Sunday after Corpus Christi, the "Prangtag" in Mariapfarr, the giant Samson figure, accompanied by his two attendant dwarves, is borne through the streets of Mariapfarr.
The Giant Samson Figure
is regarded as the Lungau´s emblem and symbolises both power and strength. It has its origins in the 16th century. The some six meters-high, over 60 kilos-heavy figure is carried on the shoulders of the "Samson Bearer" by means of a frame which is balanced in the center of the figure´s hollow body.
